From its outset, the investigation into who killed Jim and Lois Arrotta was beset by missteps and poor judgment.
Despite the gruesome murders and a bloody crime scene found on Sept. 4, 1964, Great Falls investigators allowed the Super Save grocery store to reopen for business less than 4½ hours after the bodies had been discovered. Caving in to pressure from the Super Save’s owners, the bodies were removed and customers allowed to enter the store by noon that same day.
